Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 – A Slightly Faster Processor

Qualcomm recently came up with a new mobile processor named Snapdragon 870. However, Snapdragon 870 is not a new generation design. It is like Snapdragon 865 and Snapdragon 865 Plus.

We are truly looking for a new generation mobile processor than Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 will be the one. Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 is expected to have more features and better performance.

However, Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 is very similar to Snapdragon 865 and Snapdragon 8565 Plus in terms of design and other features, such as Kyro 585 CPU and GPU cores of Adreno 650.

The only difference you can find in both the processors is the clock. Snapdragon 870 is clocked at 3.2 GH. However, Snapdragon 865 is clocked at 2.85 GHz, and Snapdragon 865 Plus is clocked at 3.1 GHz. It means that Snapdragon 870 is almost 10 percent faster than Snapdragon 865 and 3 times faster than Snapdragon 865 Plus.

In short, we can consider Snapdragon 870 processor as Snapdragon Plus Plus.

Till now, there is no clear reason behind, why Qualcomm announced Snapdragon 870 when already Snapdragon 865 and 865 plus are doing a perfect job in the market. But according to Qualcomm, they introduced Snapdragon 870 as a response to market and manufacturers’ demands.

Further, Qualcomm says that Snapdragon 870 is designed especially for the companies which demand fast speed processors, without the inclusion of some amazing features of Snapdragon 888. The reason is that the use of Snapdragon 888 may increase the cost of the mobile phones they are used in during manufacturing.

The other main reason we think of is a marketing strategy. Companies can use the name of Snapdragon 870 in their mobile phones to boost the specs sheet, and obviously, it will be in more demand as it is a newer and faster version than Snapdragon 865 and 865 plus.

Finally, according to Qualcomm, the first snapdragon 870 mobile phones will be available in the first quarter of 2021.
